Domingo Mingo Pena, 67, passed away January 16, 2013 in Abilene. Funeral will be 2:00 PM, Friday, January 17, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park with US Military Honors.
Mingo was born June 10, 1945 in Big Spring, TX to Richard B and Beatriz Guerra Pena. He graduated from Snyder High School. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Navy where he served our country in the Vietnam War. He began working for the Abilene Reporter News where he met Lizlene and they were married in 1984 and enjoyed 17 years of marriage until her passing in 2001. During their marriage he continued working for the Reporter News until his retirement after 25 years and also Case Equipment as a mechanic and driver. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and enjoyed watching football. He was a member of Bible Chapel where he was very active in the church and its ministries.
Mingo is survived by his two daughters, Teresa Pena Schmidt and husband Chris, and Amanda Pena Bloom all of Abilene two grandchildren, Jade and Ashton Schmidt his mother, Beatriz Pena of Abilene motherinlaw, Mary Lou Payne of Abilene two sisters, Ruth Pena of Abilene and Bonnie Pena of Chicago, IL two brothers, Richard Pena and wife Gina and Louis Pena all of Abilene and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made in Mingos honor to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, TX 79601
