Donald Glendon Ballard, 86, of Abilene passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Abilene.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 2 PM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, from 6 to 8 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Family Center.
Don was born on September 03, 1934, in Shep, Texas to the late William Eddie Ballard and Ruby Glenn Jackson. He married his true love, Elaine Parish on June 25, 1953, near Wingate,Texas. Don worked concrete construction for over 60 years and later owned Ballard Concrete. He was known for his high standards and strong work ethic. He was a longtime member of Southwest Drive Methodist Church (formerally Fairmont Methodist) and First Methodist Church Abilene.
Don was an avid cook and loved food. He was known as a family man and was most happy when his entire family was together. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping but most of all he loved his family and furry companion Angel.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Elaine, daughter, Cindy Kay (E.J.); grandchildren, Chrissy Randell (Brandon), Kasie Kidd (Cody) and Kellie Sklar; great grandchildren, Tristan Randell (Marlie), Paris Randell (Dylon), Hannah Sklar, Maylie Kidd, Katie Kidd, Ally Kidd, Claire Kidd and one great-great grandchild on the way; sister Jeannie Ewing.
Don was also preceded in death by his son, Ricky Ballard, great-grandchild Breanna Lippe.
