Donald Duke Jr.

Donald Allen Duke, Jr., 85 of Buffalo Gap, Texas passed away on August 1, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 6th at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

Donald was born in Henderson, North Carolina. After graduating High School in 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force where he rose to the rank of Tech. Sergeant. He met and married his sweetheart of 50 years, Mary Lois Duke. After retiring from the Air Force he obtained an Associate's Degree from Cisco Junior College.

Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his favorite times were spending time with his friends and family on Lake Ivy or Colorado Bend. Donald traveled to all fifty states (except two) and multiple countries that included: England, Africa, Canada, and Thailand.
After retiring from the Air Force, Donald continued his love of fishing with his son-in-law, grandson, and closest friends. He was always ready to get up early and return late from the lake. He also enjoyed campouts with his family and tending his cattle with the son-in-law and grandson.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lois; son, Dennis; and sister, Ann Perdue.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann and husband, Rev. Horace Abbott of Merkel, Texas. Grandchildren, Jamie Osborne and husband Derrill of Abilene; Jennifer McIver and husband Jason of Royse City; Greggory

Don Abbott and wife Marla of Abilene; and Ashley Carthel and husband Tyson of Plainview. He is also survived by 12 great grand children, Summer Sterling; Zackry and Brennan Faulkner, Drake, Cameron, and Briley McIver, Ethan, Aubree and Paxtyn Abbott, Harrison, Dillyn and Jameson Carthel. He was expecting his Great Great Grandchild in February.
