Donald Kolodziejczyk

July 16, 1944 — October 19, 2018

Donald Paul Kolodziejczyk passed away on Friday, October 19 at the Victoria Gardens of Allen in Allen, Texas. He was the son of long-time Abilene residents, the late E. P. Kolly and Josephine Kolly (Kempf). Don himself resided in Abilene and the Big Country for many years before moving to Allen in 2017. He is survived by his sisters, Loretta Prokop, Marilyn Warren, and Judith Raven, and his brother Dwayne Kolly. He leaves behind four nieces, Faye Kolly, Martha Mosinski, Kathryn Hope Kolly, and Alison Steele, and a nephew, James Steele.

Donald was born in Lubbock, Texas on July 16, 1944 at the height of World War II. His father was serving in the U. S. Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater and would not meet his young son until returning home in late 1945. He would eventually move with his family to Odessa, Texas where he graduated from Permian High School. In 1968 his parents and younger siblings legally changed their surnames from "Kolodziejczyk" to the more manageable "Kolly", but Donald chose to retain the family's traditional Polish surname out of pride in his heritage.

Donald lived his life as a beloved and valued member of his family. He had a special affection for his maternal grandparents, the late I. J. and Katherine Kempf. He took great joy in watching his young nieces and nephew grow up and was proud of their achievements and greatly enjoyed their affection for him. Before his passing, he was able to meet all seven of his grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and often served as an usher for Saturday mass before his declining health made it impossible to continue.

There will be a visitation followed by a prayer service from 6:00 until 8:00 on Tuesday, October 23 at Elmwood Funeral Home in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
