Donald Ray Logston, age 75, died in the Hendrick Medical Center Hospice Care unit in Abilene, Texas, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013.
Born September 27, 1938, in Mineral Wells, Texas, he graduated from Hawley High School in 1958. He worked as a machine operator for Lone Star Gas Company for 40 years before his retirement in 1997. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Kay, moved to Abilene where he then worked in the travel trailer delivery business before spending 15 years working for USA Today newspaper.
Don served his country in The National Guard as a U.S. Army reservist from 19561962. He was a Field Communications Crewman during his time of service. He was a passionate, almost obsessive, fan of NASCAR and no doubt is now reunited with his favorite driver, Dale Earnhart, Sr. He was a member of Broadview Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Stamford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kay, along with three children: Sherry Kay and husband, Russell Ely Leisha Gibson and Mike Logston. Also, he is survived by four children that blessed his life when he and Kay were married in 1981: Kelly Robinson and wife, Shelly Karman Abel and husband, Robert Linda Johnson and Brenda Roberts as well as 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 11, at Elmwood Funeral Home. A time for visitation will take place from 9 a.m.9:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service immediately in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to the Methodist Childrens Home in Waco, Texas Abilene Meals on Wheels or to a charity of choice.
