Doris Holley Purcell, 100, went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 1, 2018.
Doris was born on October 23, 1917 to William Thomas and Martha Holley in Jayton, Texas. She attended and graduated from Jayton's schools. After high school she enrolled in business school in Abilene, Texas. She was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for several years. Doris was very instrumental in the Abilene Garden Club and was a member for 30 plus years, holding many offices during those years. She was always beyond the times, even scrap booking before it became a trend. She loved to play card games and dominoes with her friends. She lived a full and active life up to the age of 96 years old. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be forever in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Martha Holley; her husband, Lawrence Purcell; granddaughter, Tiffany Michelle Clark; grandson, Jay Lawrence King; and son in law, Charles Allen Clark.
Doris is survived by her two daughters, Sara Clark of Conroe, TX, and Holley King and husband Jon of Shenandoah, TX; grandchildren, Jim Steven King, Jack Jeffery King, Patrick Allen Clark, and Christopher Charles Clark; and twelve great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park. Acting as pallbearers will be Walt Tuck, WO Elmore, Gene Goodwin, Glenn Hollowell, Scott Kemp, Rolf Murry and honorary pallbearer, Patrick Clark.
