Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 11:00 am at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. The Viewing will be prior to the service from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Elmwood Funeral Home. Burial will be December 30, 2020 at 1:15pm at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas.

Doris Ann Richard of Abilene, Texas passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020 at the age of 74. She was born on March 24, 1946 to Sallie Louise Matthews-Johnson and Willie George Johnson (Bill) in Columbus, Mississippi. She was the third of eleven children.
Doris graduated from Hunt High School and began working at Mississippi State College alongside her Mother. She later worked as Assistant Manager at Bill’s Drive-In.
In 1969 she met a young Airman from Houston, Texas named Johnny Richard. They married April 7, 1972 and raised 5 kids together. While Johnny served in the United States Air Force, they were stationed throughout the United States and abroad. He retired May 1989 and she continued to work for the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) until she retired the Summer of 2008. Soon after, she began to work for Dillard’s in the Mall of Abilene until 2010.
Doris accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior early in life and her love of Christ continued throughout her marriage. Johnny was later called to preach. They were members of Mt. Zion Disciples of Christ Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina and King Solomon Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas.
Doris is preceded in death, by her parents, two sisters Geraldine Washington and Harriett Matthews, two brothers Isaac Mathews and Charles (Sonny) Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Johnny Richard, daughter Sondra Elaine Thompson, son Darrell Parnell Johnson (Cheryl), daughter Michelle Katrina Dove (Patrick), son Johnny Sherdell Richard (Desiree), and son Vincent Tirrell Richard (Celia), one Aunt Alberta, god-daughters, Damara Jones (Glen) and Kristen Hatcher, thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, five sisters, one brother and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
