Dorothy Lee Fagan Jones, 81, passed away in her home under the care of Hendrick Hospice, June 29, 2014. Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Elmwood Memorial Park, Field of Honor, with Jeff Hatcher officiating. Visitation will be held at Elmwood Funeral home, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, July 1, 2014.
Dorothy was born in Anson, Texas on April 19, 1933, to Eartha Lee and Russell Fagan. She attended and graduated high school in Anson. Allen Jones noticed her in class at Baylor College, but he was unable to meet her. Finally, while back home in Abilene, he sees her while standing with a group of friends at Paramount Theatre in Abilene and introduced himself to her there. They were the love of each others life. Dorothy and Allen were married in Anson on March 5, 1955, and were happily married for 54 years before Allen passed away in 2009.
At Baylor College, Dorothy majored in Home Economics Education. Throughout College and then throughout her life, Dorothy continued to sew beautiful garments for herself, her children, her friends, and her grandchildren.
After leaving Waco and college life, Allen was commissioned in the United States Air Force. Dorothy embraced being an officers wife and worked hard putting all of her skills learned, her natural talent for entertaining, and charming people of all walks of life into Allens career. Allens career was enhanced through Dorothys hard work as an Air Force wife and providing sponsorship and guidance to countless young Air Force wives that followed their path to many air force bases throughout the world. After each deployment, the Jones family would return to home to Abilene and Clyde area. While traveling the world, Dorothy taught school at many of the bases. Upon Allens retirement from Base Commander at Little Rock Air Force Base, they returned once again to Abilene, this time to retire. She ended her career in teaching at Eula ISD.
Dorothys happiest days were while traveling around with Allen in their travel trailer seeing the fifty United States and spending time with their grandchildren. She often hosted the Mema Camp during the summers for her grandchildren to visit for as long as they wanted to stay. Christmas was a joy every year as she worked for months sewing matching pajamas for all the grandchildren, and vests, hats, and scarves for her children and inlaws. She was a wonderful cook and loved to prepare and share recipes, fresh vegetables, herbs and other garden bounty with her family and friends. Many great memories were created around meals she prepared or in her large kitchen during holidays when she opened her home, kitchen and heart to friends and family.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Mickey Jones and wife Brenda of San Angelo, Weldon Jones and wife Deborah of Big Spring, Teddy Jones and wife Janet of Houston, and daughter Linda Neill and husband Brad of Abilene eight grandchildren two greatgrandchildren her sister Vonnie Yvonne Schueler and family and the Blanton Scott family of Clyde.
Honorary Pallbearers for Dorothy are her sons Mickey, Weldon, and Teddy Jones soninlaw Brad Neill grandsons Clayton Jones, Parker Jones, Bradley Swaringen, and Tanner Swaringen.
A special thanks for the loving, compassionate care that the staff at Covenant Place Assisted Living provided to Dorothy during her stay with them. If you choose to make a memorial in lieu of flowers, two have been designated, Hendrick Hospice of Abilene and Potosi Volunteer Fire Department.
