Dorthadele Armstrong passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010, in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service celebrating her life and her faith will be held at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. A visitation will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, on Tuesday evening, 5:30 to 7:00.
Dorthadele was a great woman of faith who loved and served her Lord all her life. She was an example of true faith to all her family.
Dorthadele was born in Ferris, Texas, on February 6, 1924, the daughter of Mary Lou and Joseph F. Greathouse. In 1942, she married Emmett Gravitt, who was a pilot in World War II. He gave his life in service to his country. In 1948, Dorthadele married Doyle Cameron Armstrong, and she was his devoted wife for 57 years. Doyle passed away in 2005.
The joy of Dorthadeles life was her deep faith and her family. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Joe Armstrong of New York City two daughters, Mary Gee and husband Bob of Abilene, Marilyn Spence and husband Don of Plano two nephews, James Meng and wife Susan of Memphis, Bill Meng of Throckmorton grandchildren, Dr. Allison Padon and husband Dr. Derek Padon of Abilene, Laura Matthews and husband Jason of Dallas, Adam Spence and wife Taryn of Dallas, Brian Spence and wife Julie of Frisco, and Angie Spence of Dallas great grandchildren, Luke and Grace Padon, Parker and Ally Matthews, AveryKate and Olivia Adele Spence, and Walker Spence.
