Dorthy Forbus

May 24, 1936 — September 21, 2013

Dorthy Louise Forbus left this world to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 21, 2013. She was a tender and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who exuded the love of Christ. Her warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 27th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following at Midway Cemetery in Jones County. Visitation is from 11:30 until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Born May 24th, 1936 in Vivian, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Gordon and Inez Williams. She graduated from Odessa High School in Odessa, Texas in 1954. She attended nursing school at HardinSimmons University in Abilene, Texas where she met her beloved husband of fifty two years, John Truman Forbus.

She and John moved to Lorenzo, Texas and became involved in the farming and cattle industry of West Texas for the next thirty years. Dorthy worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Lorenzo and for Hurst Farm Supply. There they raised their three children: Gregory, Deborah, and John Douglas.

After retirement, she and John returned to Abilene. She loved taking extended trips with her husband. They travelled all around the nation and would frequently stop in to visit the kids and grandkids, the delight of their lives. At lakeside family gatherings, Dorthy was known for her love of card games, and her renowned skills at the dominos table.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her son Greg, and her sister Betty Petree. She is survived by her daughter and soninlaw Deborah and Bill McFarling of Flower Mound, Texas, her son and daughterlaw John Douglas and Michele Forbus of Littlefield, Texas, her daughterinlaw Janet Forbus of Itasca, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Samuel, Eric, Kristin, John Ross, Joshua, Lance and Christopher and her great grandchildren: Samantha, Eden, and Tyler.

She was a member of Elmdale Baptist Church in Abilene. She was the backbone of faith in the family, and her presence will never cease to be felt by those who loved her.
