Doyle E. Miller, Jr., 68, of Abilene, Texas passed away on November 29, 2017 at 2:55 p.m. Doyle was a Marine attached to the 1st Battalion 9th Marines during the Vietnam War. He received 2 purple hearts in his tour of duty. During the war he was among the thousands that served in Khe Sanh during the TET Offensive, where he received his 1st purple heart.
Later he worked for Cabot and retired from Exxon Mobil in Whiteface Texas in 2004.
Doyle and his wife moved to Abilene in 2006. He was an avid fisherman and could be seen often on the Banks of Stamford Lake fishing till all hours.
Doyle is survived by his wife Julie DePoyster Miller; his children, son, Douglas Miller; son, Alva Leon Smith and wife Denae; son, Dan Miller and wife Cindy; daughter, Dina Miller; and daughter, Genene Riege; sister, Patricia Weber and husband Raymond; son-in-law, Jason Davis; aunts, Valene Cain and husband Butch; Lavada Thorton; 3 sister-in-laws, Debra DePoyster, Teresia DePoyster, and Joyce Cornuaud and her husband Victor; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Doyle Edward Miller Sr., his mother Vernie Dean Miller, a daughter Talva Davis, 2 brothers David Miller and Marvin Duane Miller.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 P.M, Monday, December 4, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A Funeral service will be 9:30 A.M, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene.
