Dr. Harry J. Martin Jr., 84, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009 in Abilene. Dr. Martin will be remembered in a Memorial Service to be held in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all those who experienced his love.
Harry was born on February 25, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Harry Sr. and Ada Martin. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army as a sergeant in the Counter Intelligence Division. On December 24, 1951 he married Norma Vila in Puerto Rico and they have since enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage. He was a graduate of The University of Houston with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. When they moved to Abilene he became the first practicing Clinical Psychologist in Abilene and was a member on the first Examining Board of the American Psychological Association for the State of Texas.
Through his life and his practice in psychology Harry helped many people throughout the years. He had a love for classical music and was an avid reader. He was a keen observer of human nature and expressed his observations with a warm and wry sense of humor. He wrote beautiful letters, and had a love for the written and spoken word, which he passed on to all of his children.
Dr. Martin is survived by his loving wife, Norma; three daughters, Annalisa Pask and husband Neil Pask of Dallas, Sandra Martin and husband Kurt Schmidt of Austin, and Maria Arena and husband John of Dallas; one son, Paul Martin and wife Theresa Nolan-Martin of Granbury; eight grandchildren, Cora Johnson, Edna Martin, Harrison, Isabel and Claire Pask, Karl and Ali Schmidt, and Ava Arena; one great-grandchild, Lucas Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sr. and Ada Martin, and his sisters Ruth Edwards and Evelyn Martin.

Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Bill Wright, Jerry King, Bob Lockhart, Sylvester Montelbano and Jeff Wolf
