Earnest Edward Reed passed away in peace on June 15, 2017 at Oaks at Radford Hills. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, with Fredrick Starks officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 PM -7:30 PM on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Elmwood Memorial Park.
Earnest was born to the union of Johnny Harold Reed and Maggie (James) Reed in Anson, Texas on October 18, 1928. In 1952, he married Annie Marie Brown and to this union one child, a daughter was born, Kerrie Reed. Earnest remarried in 1981 Bernice Stevenson. He was a member of Treadway Church of Christ for over 60 years and spent 20 years as a deacon.
Earnest is preceded in death by four brothers, Artie Lee Reed, Quincy Gene Reed, Johnny Harold Reed and Ronnie Wayne Reed, one sister, Johnnie May Phillips his wife and step-daughter, Georgiana Stevenson and one grandson, Curtis Gindratt.
Earnest loved the open road and spent over 50 years as a truck driver for Mack Trucking and continued to work part time after his retirement. His favorite pastime was dancing.
He leaves to celebrate his life, a daughter, Kerrie Reed-Collins, Columbus, OH, three sisters, Erma Dell Griffin of San Antonio, TX, Goldie Anne Owens of Titusville, FL, and Ora Lee Lynn of Abilene, TX, one brother Cedric Reed (Kihmberely Reed) Belleville, IL, one granddaughter, Jamila Collins, one grandson, Rivell Collins, one great-granddaughter, Lauren Gindratt, and two great-grandsons, Justyn Harper and Truth Collins. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews but two special nieces who cared for him and tended to him in his final years, Lyssa Placide and Sharon Lynn.
