Edgar Leroy Wright, 84, passed away October 19, 2013 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6 till 8 PM, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Ed was born October 2, 1929 in Thermopolis, WY to Loyd and Mara Wright where he grew up and attended school. After high school he joined the Rodeo where he was a Saddle Bronc and Bull Rider. He joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his career he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant after 28 years of dedicated service to our country. He married Cynthia VanSiclen in 1976 in Abilene. He worked for the City of Abilene as Supervisor of Refuse for 15 years until his retirement and raised and showed Appaloosa Horses where he had great success.
Ed was a simple man who loved spending time with his family. He was a dedicated member of Broadview Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Hobah Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia four daughters, Sandy Hollowell and husband Robert, Carol Chastain and husband John, Kathy Hampton and husband Lance, Debbie Chism eight grandchildren, Lora Hurta and husband Chris, Allison Bellar, Jenifer Bellar, Jaron Bellar, Abigail Chastain, Ryan Hampton and fiance Jamie, Trey Hampton, Noah Hampton seven great grandchildren, one brother, Dale Wright two nephews, Jack and Paul Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents two grandchildren, Christi Hollowell and Jay Bellar one sister, one nephew.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 S 27th St. Abilene, TX 79605.
