Edith Smith, 62, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Edith was born September 4, 1953 in Wichita County to Charles Albert Barry, Sr. and Mamie Joyce. She graduated Keller High School in 1972. She married Edward Smith and they were married for 25 years. She bought Slix Billiards in Abilene in the early 1990's and operated it 35 years until July of 2014. She had many regular customers throughout the years and was very proud to call them all great friends and family.
Edith was a cancer survivor. She loved to play Bingo and collected angels and elephants. She was a hardworking, loving woman with a great sense of humor. She will be missed by her family that she loved so much.
She is survived by one daughter, Tanya Smith of Abilene; her foster mother, Dollie Sitton and family; two sisters, Mary K. Bird and husband Douglas of Magnolia, and Shara Sargent and husband Randy of New Kirk, Oklahoma; two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert; her foster dad, Kenneth Sitton and her birth parents.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Bible Way Church Bethlehem Pantry, 1002 Lillius St. Abilene, TX 79603, or Rescue the Animals, 4620 N 1st St, Abilene, TX 79603.
