Edith Joyce Rice Spicer, 81, lifelong resident of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22nd at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. Her graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Peace.
Mrs. Spicer was born on May 18, 1927 in Abilene the daughter of Harry L. Rice Sr. and Sarah Ann Zimmerman Rice. She married Frank H. Spicer Jr. in 1950 and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1970. She was a member of the University Baptist Church. Edith was a devoted mother and grandmother; she enjoyed keeping her yard beautiful and planting flowers in the spring.
Survivors include, her daughter, Kathy Aslin and husband Don of Abilene; her son, Larry Spicer of Galveston; grandchildren, Kerry Aslin of Lubbock, Kacey Aslin of Houston and Kelly Aslin of Abilene; two sisters, Harriann Goldsmith of Abilene and Betty Collins of LaPorte; a brother, Harry Rice Jr. of Galveston; and two great grandchildren.
Her husband, parents, and two sisters, Emmagene Taylor and Dorothy McClarty preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Willow Unit at Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center and Dr. Sandy Hazelip for their exceptional care.
