Edna Earle Smith Davis Wood, 82, passed away in Abilene, on December 28, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Burial will follow in the Garden of Faith at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Edna was born on January 8, 1930, in Charleston, SC, to Joseph Travis and Maude Cleveland Smith. Edna worked for years as a bookkeeper, first in a poultrypharmacy business in GA, and then later in the real estate business of Abilene. Her late husband Hoyt Davis was very successful in the life insurance business, and they took work trips to HI, NY, CA, as well as numerous other places. After Hoyts untimely death at the age of 51, she married Bill Wood, who was at the time employed by Lockheed International as a flight engineer. They both lived in North Yemen for several years while the Lockheed employees trained and operated the Yemen Air Force. On their trips back and forth to the Middle East they traveled Europe, Africa, as well as both the Middle and Far East. After Bill retired they purchased a lake house on Possum Kingdom and lived there until Bill passed shortly after Edna relocated back to Abilene.
Edna is survived by her daughter Martha Lynn Davis Smith and husband Tony, of Abilene, her sons, Thomas Davis, of Abilene, and James Earl Davis and wife Miriam Selena of Galveston grandchildren, Travis Gazaille, Ryan James Gazaille, Coley Ann DavisTatyrek, Connor Fields Davis, their mother, Celia Corley Davis great granddaughter, Layla Gazaille stepchildren, Donna Wood Martin, of Dallas, Darrel Wood, of Arizona, Denis Wood, and Pete Wood, both of Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her brother, Joe Smith, and sister Travis Smith Biggers.
Pallbearers for the service are Travis Gazaille, Ryan Gazaille, Connor Davis, Scott Martin, Laremy Wood, J.T. Tatyrek.
