Edward H. Hamilton, 84, passed away on December 23rd at Scott White Hospital in Temple, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech ST. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.brbrEd was born in Abilene, Texas, December 28, 1924, the son of Truman L. and Irma B. Elmore Hamilton. He was a lifelong resident of Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1942. He attended Hardin Simmons University until he joined the U.S. Navy. He participated in the Navy V-12 Program at Kansas State Teachers College followed with naval officers training at Northwestern University where he graduated in 1944 earning his commission as a U.S. Naval officer. During World War II, he proudly served as the commanding officer of USS LCI-980 in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, Philippine Liberation, until his discharge from the military in 1946. brbrAfter returning to Abilene from the U. S. Navy, he met and married Margaret Encke in Strawn, Texas. He was engaged in farming and ranching from 1947 to 1953. After 1953 he worked for over 50 years in the oil industry as an Independent Petroleum Landman and was active in leasing and drilling.brbrMr. Hamilton was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 62 years and a member of the Griswold and Propheteers Sunday School classes. He was a member of the Abilene Rotary Club and the Abilene Landmans Association. He helped organize the Abilene Council for Retarded Children and the Childrens Development Center. Mr. Hamilton was active in the Special Olympics parent group for many years and is a former member of the Military Affairs Committee of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Public Responsibility Committee for the City of Abilene as well as the Superintendents Advisory Council at the Abilene State School. His hobbies included tennis and ranching.brbrHe is survived by Margaret, his wife of 62 years, one son Irvin Hamilton and wife Shirley of Austin, grandchildren Robert Hamilton, Paige and husband Haris Hadziselimovic, and Ross Hamilton all of Austin, two sisters La Wanda Gilliam of Wichita Falls and La Nell Hill of Silverton. Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by a son Edward Hamilton III, daughter Judy, sister Lerlene Hamilton Oehler, and brother T. L. Hamilton. brbrHe will be remembered for his generous, caring thoughtfulness, especially with anyone he found in need.brbrThe family requests memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, P.
