Edward Franklin Hays, 81, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake RD. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Edward was born on January 7, 1929 in Cass County the son of Robert Hays and Elizabeth Leslie Hays. He married Ruth Mildred Barber in Texarkana, Arkansas on December 3, 1950 and shortly after was called to serve 2 years in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1956, Edward moved to Dallas where he worked for LTV in Grand Prairie until his retirement in 1991. He has been a resident of Abilene since December of 1999.
Mr. Hays was a patient man who always thought things through. He worked hard to provide for his family and was a good father, husband and best friend to his wife of 59 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Abilene his daughter, Vonnie Crumpton and husband David of Abilene 3 grandchildren, Alan Crumpton of Waxahachie, Cindi Harvey and husband Mike of Abilene and Philip Crumpton and wife Katy of Abilene 4 great grandchildren, Noah, Genesis, Deron and Jude 5 sisters, Mary Lou Holliday and husband Maurice, Martha Hopkins, Linda Meyer and husband Johnny all of Texarkana, Texas, Julia Hopkins and husband Bud of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Alice Brown and husband Robert of Nash, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
