Elsie Ammons, 84, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 in San Angelo. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, January 2nd in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 1st at Elmwood.
Elsie was born July 3, 1928 in Hermleigh, Texas the daughter of Melvin and Mary Coston Vernon. She graduated from Hermleigh High School and married her high school sweetheart, Walter Maurice Ammons on September 30, 1946. She was a loving mother to her three children and worked as the cafeteria manager at Anson Jones Elementary School. She then worked at and retired from the Abilene Reporter News. After retirement, Elsie was a partner at Elmdale Flea Market.
Elsie loved to crochet, knit, sew, go square dancing, and traveling in her Winnebago.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Ammons and wife Susan of Dayton, TX, her daughter, Sheila Scott and husband Bill of Grape Creek, TX soninlaw, David Oly Olson of Hawley brotherinlaw, DP Ammons of Buda seven grandchildren, Holly Phillip Litton of Springfield, MO, Cristy Michael Wyatt of Fukuoka, Japan, David Christy Olson of Portales, NM, Sara Joe Maberry of Dayton, TX, Philip Michelle Scott of Odessa, TX, Charlie Ammons of Dayton, TX and Stephen Tammie Ammons of Elkart, TX 15 greatgrandchildren nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, and a daughter, Marilyn Olson in 2012 brother, Ulmer Buddy Vernon and sisters, Chlorine Jenkins and Lois Green.
