Elsie Mae Lewis, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 20, 2011 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer Drive.
Elsie was born May 31, 1941 in San Angelo, TX to L. C. and Minnie Scott Young. She was a graduate of San Angelo Central High School. After graduation she met and then married the love of her life Paul in 1962. She spent 22 years supporting our country as Paul served in the USAF during which time they lived in Colorado, Wyoming, and Athens, Greece. Elsie was a talented seamstress and was most noted for her costumes in the Pioneer Drive Easter Pageant. She was also a cast member of the pageant for 26 straight years. She was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church for 34 years and was an active member of the sanctuary choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid Find a Word puzzle solver.
Elsie is survived by her husband, Paul four children, Kenneth W. Lewis and wife Katrina of Austin,TX, Carol D. Lewis of Italy, TX, Paul W. Lewis Jr and wife Janene of Round Rock, TX, and John D. Lewis and wife Keri of Abilene eight grandchildren, Willie and wife Dakeisha, Kyonne, Chante, Gabrielle, Olivia, Alexandra, Haley, and Paige one greatgrandchild, Danielle three step greatgrandchildren, Trea, Savannah, and Michael six siblings, Geoffie D. Young, Delores Rogers, Geneva Lacy, Emma Allen, Homa Tate, Joy Donahoo
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents two brothers, Gailand and Dennis Young one sister, Mildred Jones.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial be made to Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer Drive, Abilene, TX 79605 or Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, TX 79601
