Elza Gordon

February 11, 1913 — September 17, 2011

Elza B. Gordon, 98, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Abilene. A graveside service with the Reverend Stan Allcorn officiating will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 24th at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Rd. All are invited to meet at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South at 10:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery.

Elza was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on February 11, 1913 the son of Elijah Beverly Gordon and Nellie Hay Gordon. He served in the U.S. ArmyAir Corp and was stationed in France during WW II. Elza was the first graduate of Gail Business College of Abilene in 1932 receiving his diploma in Accounting and later worked 30 years with the Texas Employment Commission. On October 16, 1982, he married his loving wife Jo Marie who preceded him in death on August 7th of this year. Elza was a long time member of the Abilene Bible Church and in recent years had placed his membership with Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. He was active with Gideons International and the Central Texas Gem and Mineral Society in Abilene.

Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Diana Kendall of Waco and Dallas his stepdaughter, Donna Jean DJ Lazio and husband Dr. Tommy Lazio of Abilene 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
