Emma Clarice Carpenter, 95, passed away Monday, November 8, 2010 in Abilene. Graveside funeral service will be held at2:30, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South, directed by Elmwood Funeral Home.
Emma was born on November 16, 1915 in Abilene to Murray and Mary Elizabeth Thornton. She was a graduate of Abilene High School. She married Winfred Carpenter in Abilene in 1933 and enjoyed 69 years of marriage until his passing in 2002. They attended the 16th and Vine Church of Christ until its closing. She was a warm and loving mother that lived her life to take care of her family. She was an avid football fan always cheering for Abilene High Eagles, Oklahoma Sooners, and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved to spend her time cooking and taking care of her family, was a great bridge player, and enjoyed reading.
Emma is survived by her 3 children, Vernoghn Strole of Abilene, Jimmy Carpenter and wife Mary of Edmond, Ok, Sandy Meyer and husband Buddy of Abilene 6 grandchildren, Melia Randolph and husband Mack of San Antonio, Lori Wood and husband Keith of Carrollton, Courtney Lewallen and husband Mark of Houston, Murray Carpenter of Edmond, OK, Mindy McClure and husband Rick of Colleyville, and Misty Willcox of Dallas.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center and Hospice of the Big Country for their wonderful support and care.
