Erasmo Joe DeAnda was born on Feb 3, 1934 and went to heaven on October 29, 2016. He was 82 years old and died peacefully at his home in San Antonio. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, November 4, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Joe grew up in Menard, TX and in his younger years, worked with his family as a farm laborer. He joined the Air Force and served in the Fire & Rescue Division. He worked for 35 years at West Texas Utilities as an Electric Meter Technician. He enjoyed building his house in Abilene, working on cars and attempted to fix anything that was broken. There were many outings with his family of fishing and picnicking. He taught his children the value of hard work, attended church regularly, and was one of the most patient men ever, never getting angry and always a soft spoken, happy and chuckling man, a man of simple pleasures. He was a generous and simple man who would give you the shirt off his back.
He was the last surviving brother of his 7 brothers & his 5 sisters preceded his death. His only surviving sister, Pauline (Ray) Castillo lives in San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martiniano & Luisa DeAnda. He was widowed by his wife of 35 years, Connie. He remarried and enjoyed his 22 years with Susan DeAnda in San Antonio. He is survived by his 4 children, Danny (Abilene), Joe, Jr. (Karen) of Loveland, CO, Kathy (Dempsey) Jones of Abilene and John "Gerry" (Kristy) of Windsor, CO. He is also survived by his step-children, Richard Roland, Jr. (San Antonio) & Salina Roland Flowers (San Antonio). He also had many nieces & nephews & 5 grand children, 3 step-grand children & 1 great-grandson, Hollis Jones, of Abilene
