Erma Waters

Erma Dean Waters, 83, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6:00 till 7:00 PM, Monday, July 22, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Erma Dean Gardenhire Waters was born in Lakeview, TX on November, 23, 1929 to parents, Garland and Beatrice Jackson Gardenhire. After graduating from High School she attended Texas Womans University in Denton, TX for two years and then graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon, TX with her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She married John H. Waters in 1957 and they lived on the farm in Anton, TX. She was a school teacher and taught in Sudan, Anton, and Littlefield before moving to Abilene in 1980 where she continued to work as a substitute teacher for AISD for many years. She enjoyed music, sewing, shopping, and china painting for which she won several blue ribbons at the fair.
She was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was an organist. She belonged to the order of the Eastern Star, was a Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls, and was active in the Gideons International Auxiliary.
Erma was survived by her husband, John H. Waters two children, Emery Waters and wife Rosa of Austin, and Johnna Bolden of Abilene eight grandchildren five great grandchildren one greatgreat grandchild two brothers, Gene Gardenhire of Albuquerque, NM, and Charles Gardenhire of Las Cruses, NM.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Wesley Court, Mesa Springs and the staff at Hospice of the Big Country for all the wonderful care you gave during this difficult time.
