Everett Griggs

June 26, 1939 — March 31, 2017

E. Arnold Griggs, 77, of Abilene passed away Friday, March 31, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 6, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 202 Butternut St. Services under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home 5750 Hwy 277 South.

He was born in Texarkana, Texas, on June 26, 1939 to Ernest and Tracie (Collier) Griggs. He lived his early years in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and moved to Tyler, Texas in 1948. He attended John Tyler High School graduating in 1957.

He attended Tyler Junior College completing his studies in Technical Drafting and Design in 1959. He received his certification as an Engineering Technician in 1969.
Moving to Abilene in 1959, he perused his engineering career in power plant design, electrical substation design, transmission and distribution design and related construction supervision for fifty-one (51) years. He married Alice Nations on July 3, 1972.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Harvester's Sunday School Class. Over the years he served on various boards and committees. He was a long time greeter and usher. He enjoyed volunteering and working with District 7, 4H and won the Silver Glover Award for volunteer of the year in 2016.

He was an avid photographer, golfer, sportsman, fisherman and deer hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Griggs of Abilene; daughter, Nancy; grandson, Levi Kontos and his wife Laura, two great-granddaughters and a great grandson of Wisconsin; grandson, Tony Canon; a great-granddaughter Kasie; and a great-grandson Brandon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Pennie; a grandson, Dusty and a great-grandson, Timothy.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Service Center and Food Pantries of Abilene.
