Fern Wyatt Barnsley, 76, passed away Wednesday September 1, 2010 at her home. Visitation will be Friday, September 3, 2010 from 5 till 7 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Msgr. Frederick Nawarskas. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Fern was born February, 21, 1934 to Robert and Beatrice Hinton Wyatt in Rochester, TX. The family moved to Abilene in 1940 where she graduated from Abilene High School and immediately enrolled in business school. Her first job was at Abilene Savings and Loan working as a legal secretary. She married the love of her life, Harry Barnsley, in December of 1960 and continued her college education, earning a degree from McMurry University and then another degree from Hardin Simmons University. They moved to Dallas where she enrolled in the SMU Law School. After this they moved back to Abilene where they started Barnsley Real Estate. She loved the real estate business but had to give it up due to her long battle with illness. Fern had a love for all animals and was a generous supporter of Rescue the Animals, Abilene Womans Club, and the Girl Scouts.
Fern is survived by her husband, Harry her sister, Jane Jones and husband Raymond of Abilene one nephew, Ben Jones of Dallas and numerous cousins.
The family would like extend a special thanks to Ferns wonderful caregivers, Ann Johnson and Tracie Carlisle and Hendrick Hospice Care for the love and attention they have given Fern throughout this battle.
