Fern Stuckey

January 2, 1920 — February 29, 2020

Fern Stuckey...celebrating a life well lived. 2 Timothy 4:7. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day.

Fern Elizabeth Stuckey, age100, of Abilene passed away on February 29, 2020 in Merkel, TX .She was born to Marshall & Jewel (Brown) Lamb in Oilton, Oklahoma on January 2, 1920. Her siblings were Betty Jo and Ray Lamb. She was a homemaker, working for a few years in the Odessa school system. Fern was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church at the time of death. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband, Elzie Herbert Stuckey (1994) and her sons, Harold Wayne Stuckey (1989) and Lester Gene Stuckey (1975). She is survived by daughter-in-law, Kathryn (Stuckey) Rister and her husband Curtis Rister, of Tye, her grandchildren, Terry Stuckey of Donna, TX., Gina Reddin and her husband Michael, of Tye, Amy Richardson and husband James, of Abilene, David Stuckey and his wife Jennifer, of Wildwood, Missouri. She is also survived by numerous Great-grandchildren and Great-great-grandchildren.

Fern loved Jesus as Lord of her life. She was an inspiring example to her family as how to live life. She was frugal, and very wise in the way she used her money. Fern loved fishing and camping. She could catch more fish than anyone else around her. She was a gardener and especially enjoyed raising roses and iris. She also grew a food garden. She canned much of what she raised. The family especially enjoyed her sweet pickles, peach cobbler and buttermilk pies. Fern enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Every year she would crochet scarves and hats as her gifts for family members. She loved board games and playing “42.” She spent many hours sitting at a table with family playing games, enjoying fellowship and laughter.

Funeral services will be at Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park Tuesday at 10:00 AM, March 3, 2020 with burial following. Omer Hancock will be officiating the service.
