Frances Evelee Long Thompson Almond, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 surrounded by family and friends at Abilene Regional Hospital in Abilene, Texas. She was born September 30th, 1928 in Caldwell West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Atchless Muart Long Jr. and Pearl Wood Long of Caldwell, West Virginia and spent her childhood years at The Old Home Place in Monroe Draft, Caldwell, West Virginia.
Frances graduated from White Sulphur Springs High School and from the Chesapeake and Ohio School of Nursing in 1950 as a Registered Nurse. The majority of her professional career and family life was spent in Lynchburg, Virginia. Frances worked first at Lynchburg Training School and then Lynchburg General Hospital and finished her career as a private nurse and Nursing Home Supervisor. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church and was a devout Christian and bible scholar who reinforced her faith and bible studies by watching Shepherds Chapel with Pastor Arnold Murray and God Learning Chanel out of Odessa, Texas. She was a wizard with crossword puzzles and enjoyed collecting mice figurines and creating various scenes with her collection.
Frances is survived by a daughter and a son, Kaye Lee Thompson ElNajjar and Joseph Gary J.G.Joe Thompson and their spouses Sohail ElNajjar and Bonnie Flint Thompson 5 grandchildren, Cameron Thompson, twins, Curtis and Gary Thompson, Nadia ElNajjar Lewis and Joseph ElNajjar and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Eva Mae Long Vance of Kent, Ohio, and brother, Kenneth Darius Long of Lynchburg Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Wallace Thompson, who died January 27th, 1969 and her second husband Alvin G. A.G. Almond who died April 19th, 2001, after which she moved, first to Annapolis, MD to live with her son Joe and his family and again when they moved to Tuscola, Texas. Also preceding her was her twin sister who died shortly after her birth and sisters Patricia Jean Long Bragg and Opal Beatrice Long Taylor as well as four brothers, James Samuel Long, Reverend Atchless Muart Long III A.M, Landon Leroy Long and Simon Eugene Long.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 9th at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her family will be receiving friends and relatives at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg following the service.
