Frances Tate, 88, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 till 8 PM, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Graveside funeral service will be 10 AM, Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Abilene City Cemetery.
Frances Ione Tate was born April 19, 1924 in Abilene, TX to W.H. and Gladys Shepherd. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1942. Shortly after high school she married James Milton Tate in Albany, TX. She worked at Peaks Pharmacy Soda Fountain and enjoyed serving the Camp Barkley Soldiers when they came into town. She spent the last 11 years living in the assisted living facilities of Wisteria Place. She loved Animals and enjoyed traveling but her joy came from telling jokes. She always had a new joke for anyone who was willing to listen.
She was preceded in death by her husband her parents and one sister, Martha Ann Titus.
She is survived by two sons, Bill Tate and wife Mary of Abilene, James Tate Jr. and wife Lynn of Clyde four grandchildren, James Tate III and wife Deanne, Jarren Tate and wife Marla, Amy Cowart and husband Chuck, Jonathan Burrus several great grandchildren longtime caretaker, Johnnie Bradshaw and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggest memorial donations be made in Frances honor to West Texas Rehab, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605 or Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st St, Abilene, TX 79605
