Frances Weese

October 3, 1925 — January 7, 2017

Frances Lucille (Brown) Weese passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home in the Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 S.

Frances was born on October 3, 1925 in Abernathy, TX to Roy Delmar Brown and Veda Wiley Brown. She attended school in Lubbock before the family moved to Los Angeles, CA during World War II. Her father worked in an Ammunition Defense Plant and she attended Pepperdine College. The family moved back to Texas and she settled in San Antonio where she met and married Alfred Vernon Weese on November 2, 1946. She gave birth to two sons: Vernon and Van and one daughter, Vandra. She settled her family in Abilene where she lived most of her 91 years. Frances loved her family and supported them in everything they did. Frances was an avid sports fan, especially the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks.

Frances was a Charter Member of Southern Hill Church of Christ. She served along with a small group of ladies at the church who got together each week for fellowship while they hand folded the bulletins for the church (prior to automation). She was a very faithful Christian woman who helped wherever and whenever needed within the congregation as well as the community. Frances worked 30+ years for Employees Insurance Group, where she was a clerical supervisor.

She worked very hard to set an example for her children, never complaining and always participating in her children's activities. She loved to travel, sew, crochet, square dance, play games and work jig saw puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wiley Brown and son Vernon Weese.

She is survived by her daughter Vandra Oxner and husband Robert Carbaugh of Abilene, Van and Jeanie Weese of Denton, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hendricks Hospice, Southern Hills Church of Christ HOPE CHEST or The American Cancer Society.
