Francisco Rodriguez, 93, passed away February 13, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. A prayer servicevisitation will be held 6 till 8 PM, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 10 AM, Monday, February, 18, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Frank was born in Coleman, TX on December 3, 1919 to Santos Rodriguez and Martha Salas. He moved to Abilene when he was a young boy and attended Americanization School. He married Juanita Alvarez on January 17, 1947.As a young boy Frank was in the Boy Scouts where he became an Eagle Scout and a Troop Leader. He worked at Windsor Hotel before joining the US Army on February 14, 1941. He was an US Army Boxer for the 144th Infantry Regiment GCompany, where he was the Light Heavy Weight Champion in 1942, 1943, and 1944 with a record of 477. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Frank was caring giving to everyone he knew. He always thought of others never himself. He was a Soldier, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, GreatGrandfather, and Friend. Frank inspired so many and gave us wisdom on how a man should love his wife and family until the very end. He was a Christian man with a great faith in God.
Survivors include 2 sons, Santos A. Rodriguez Lucy Abilene, TX, and Albert Rodriguez Sophie of Bartlett, Tx 3 Sisters, Bernardina Rios of Abilene, TX, Herminia Gaona of Port Aransas, TX, Eliazar Briones of Arlington, TX 2 Brothers, Eliseo Rodriguez of Saint Louis, MO, and Salvador Rodriguez of Abilene, TX 5 Grandchildren, Melissa Avila John of Helotes TX, Jennifer Dominguez Nick of Helotes, TX, Ryan Rodriguez Laurie of San Antonio, TX, Rebekah Wiesner Ron of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Adria Moore Joey of Bartlett, TX 11 GreatGrandchildren and numerous neices and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Juanita Alvarez his parents a sister, Rachel Ramirez a brother, Lujerio Rodriguez and GreatGrandson, Matthew Dominguez.
Pallbearers will be John Avila, Nick Dominguez, Ryan Rodriguez, Rene Cisneros, Josh Dominguez and Christopher Avila
