Fred Gomez

Fred E. Gomez of Abilene, 72, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at a local hospital.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, December 20, 2007, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; following the visitation a Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Ruben Covos officiating; interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.

Fred was born in Stamford, Texas on July 24, 1935 to Jesus and Dominga Elias Gomez. He married his school sweetheart Isabel Sanchez on August 20, 1955. He was employed with J.H. Strain before moving to Abilene, TX in 1965. Fred was employed with Hoppe Auto Electric for several years. He dearly loved his wife, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and was surrounded by many friends whom he loved and they loved him. He liked music and loved to dance. He attended and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel Gomez of Abilene; mother, Dominga Gomez of Round Rock; three sons, Jimmy Gomez, Eddie Gomez, and Gilbert Gomez all of Abilene; brother, Ray Gomez of Stamford; three sisters, Virginia Macias of Denham Springs, LA, Stella Camp of Round Rock, and Lorraine Gomez of Stamford; six grandchildren; seven great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.

Max Mendez will serve as honorary pallbearer; serving as pallbearers, grandsons, Joseph Gomez and Freddie Gomez, nephews, Dwayne Gomez, Gabriel Camacho, Paul Gomez, Jr., and cousin, Tony Vasquez.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Gomez; five brothers, Ted Gomez, Martin Gomez, Paul Gomez, Wendell Gomez and Wally Gomez; sister, Adela Nieto; and a granddaughter, Stormy Kay Gomez.
