Gabriel Mendoza

Gabriel Alejandro Mendoza, 22, passed from this earth on January 19th, 2019. Visitation will be 6:00PM - 8:00PM, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.

Gabriel was born October 9th, 1995 in Abilene, Texas to Alex Mendoza & Tammy Everton. He graduated from Cooper High School in 2013 and went on to continue his education at Hardin Simmons University majoring in music. He was respectfully a member of the Hardin Simmons Orchestra as a double Bass player. He recently transferred to Texas State University to continue his music education where he continued to play the Bass for Texas State Symphony Orchestra. Gabe developed a love for music at a very early age. His dad taught him to play the guitar beginning at the age of 10. In an essay he recently wrote for TSU, Gabe dreamed of one day becoming an orchestra professor to invest in the next generation of musicians. Gabe's love of music was reflected in much of his life and we are confident that he would want the music to go on. "Life & love go on; Let the music play" - Johnny Cash.

Gabe is survived by his mother, Tammy Everton of Austin; his step-dad, Travis McKnight of Austin; his father, Alex Mendoza and step-mother Jana Beall, both of Abilene; and one brother Sean Murphy, of Abilene. Gabe will be greatly missed by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, David Everton & Linda Manley Everton; & his paternal grandparents, Jesus Mendoza Sr. & Antonia Solis Mendoza.
