Gary Lee Poynor, 69, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022, in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be held 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, December 5, 2022, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Gary was born March 2, 1953, in Ranger, Texas to Wesley and Johnnie Poynor. He graduated from Ranger High School. After graduation Gary joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. He attended Howard Payne University from 1974 – 1976 and Hardin Simmons University from 1984-1986 receiving his bachelor’s degree. Gary married the love of his life Kathy Haught on May 28, 1977, and the two spent 45 blissful years together. During his life Gary was a truck driver for many years and worked for Ken Poynor’s office from 1990 to 2022. He was a long-time member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. Gary loved the Lord and his family. Gary was very loved and will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Poynor; his son, Brian Poynor and wife Lindsay; four grandchildren, Hunter, Acelyn, Blaze, and Gentry; his brother, Ken Poynor and wife Dolores; one niece, Carolyn Petrencik and husband Scott; two nephews, Matt Poynor and wife Traci, and Adam Poynor; and many other relatives and friends.
