Genevieve Bell, born July 14, 1924, passed away peacefully, in Houston, Texas surrounded by her children, sons, John Terry Bell of Houston, Stuart Ray Bell of Baton Rouge, and daughter, Genna Mae ("Maisie") Bell Harris also of Houston.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 2, at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Genevieve was born in Breckenridge, Texas, to Claude Thompson and Willie Mae Brown-Thompson. She grew up in Abilene with her mother, Willie Mae & grandmother, Nancy G. Brown. She attended Central Elementary and Abilene High School living for years at 1209 Palm Street. She met the love her life at McMurry College, John Allen Bell, Jr. Separated from John, by World War II and the Pacific Ocean, Genevieve completed her M.A. in English at the University of Texas, Austin...her thesis, The Rise and Fall of Silas Lapham. When John returned from the war, they married August 17th, 1948 and started their late blooming family in Dallas, TX. Genevieve worked as secretary to the Superintendent of the Highland Park school district while John attended SMU.
They relocated to Abilene soon after the birth of their first child where the Bell family worked, played and loved. Instead of pursuing a career, Genevieve chose to stay at home with her children. The memories of freshly starched linens, simmering pots for supper, chopped fruit salads, treasury speeches at PTA meetings, Brownie activities even the sons "got" to attend, the smell of suntan lotion on weekend lake trips all spring back from times gone. John and Genevieve retired in Kingsland, Texas on Lake LBJ in the early 1980's so she could be close to her loved Austin, Texas.
The Mother that was always there for us can no longer be there except in our hearts and our minds. We grieve with loving recollection while she has yet begun her greatest adventure living God's plan.
