George L. Spradlin, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in Alaska. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Monday, October 27th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. His funeral service with Mike Hill officiating will be held at Beltway Park Baptist Church, 4009 Beltway South at 1:00 PM on Tuesday with entombment following in Elmwood Memorial Park.
George was born on July 23, 1930 and has been a lifelong resident of Taylor County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and worked for Southwestern Bell for over 30 years. He married Jane Owen Spradlin on August 9, 1958 in Anson and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2003. He attended Broadview Baptist Church.
George was an avid outdoorsman, and always enjoyed all types of water activities including fishing, scuba
ing and many trips to Possum Kingdom Lake when he was raising his family. After retirement, he and Jane enjoyed many travels in their mobile home and after a one trip to Alaska, he developed a great love for the landscape and fishing that state had to offer. He made many successful fishing trips to Alaska that could always be proven by a freezer full of Salmon and Halibut. When he was home in Abilene, he could often be found in his shop enjoying his love for woodworking.
George is survived by his children, Eddie Buster and wife Kathy of North Richland Hills, Ronnie Buster and wife Sandra of Clyde, Tony Spradlin and wife Rebecca of Tuscola, and Sandi Zalkind of Fort Worth; one sister, Glenda Gay of Abilene; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
