George Silas Thompson, 89, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020 in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Friday, October 23, 2020 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 hwy 277 south. A graveside service will be 1:00 PM, Friday, October 23, 2020 in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
George was born June 23, 1931, in Centerville South Dakota, to Silas and Florence Thompson. George joined the United States Airforce and proudly served his country over 20 years. George also worked as a machinist and millwright at Crown Cork and Seal after retiring from the Air Force. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, building model airplanes, and wood working. Above all this George enjoyed his family and loved with all of his heart. George will forever be in our hearts and greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Thomas Thompson.
George is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Charleen Thompson; his children, Merrie Rogge and her husband Richard, Richard Lee Thompson and his wife Jodi, and George Steven Thompson and his wife Trisha; six grandchildren, James Rogge, Diana MaGouirk, Robert Kyle Thompson, Randall Thompson, Erin Henry, and Emily Strong; and 15 great grandchildren.
