Gere Mitchell

Gere Mitchell, 71, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 in Abilene. Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, officiated by Reverend Terry Davis. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Parks Garden of Faith.
Gere was born October 21, 1940 in Abilene, TX to Pat and Jane Moore Mitchell. He graduated from Abilene High School and attended McMurry College. His career was spent in the Air Defense industry working for Lockheed Martin for twentyeight years. He married Sandra Hunter Davis on January 16, 1988 and they enjoyed twentyfour years of marriage together. He was very proud to be a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas. He attended First Baptist Chruch of Abilene and enjoyed spending his time playing golf at Shady Oaks Country Club, hunting, fishing, and doing anything outdoors.
He is survived by his wife Sandra four children, Rene Drake and husband Bonard of Midlothian, Orren Bruce Mitchell and wife Kayla of Cedar Park, Terry Davis and wife Cheryl of Abilene, Andrea Spinks and husband David of Abilene ten grandchildren, Zach Drake, Mitchell Drake, Amanda Wheeler, Lexi Brooks, Douglas Mitchell, Lauren Hilliard and husband Spencer, Holli Davis, Shelby Davis, Andrea Davis, Aleah Spinks two great grandchildren, McKenzie Mitchell, Elijah Bruce Wheeler two brothers, Gene Mitchell and wife Pat of Abilene, Marcial Mitchell and wife Bonnie of Edmond, OK several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gere was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Kristin Rene Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to Love and Care Ministries, 233 Fannin Street, Abilene, TX 79603.
