Gladys Cotton

November 2, 1915 — October 28, 2007

Gladys Irene Cherry Cotton, 91, was born November 2, 1915, in Lamar County, Texas. She died, October 28, 2007, passing from this life to her life in heaven.

There will be a celebration of her life on October 31, 2007, at 1:00 pm in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Highway 277, Abilene, Texas. Rev. Elizabeth Abraham, chaplain with Hospice of Lubbock will officiate. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.

She married Virgil Cotton on September 14, 1935. He preceded her in death April 19, 1980. They moved from East Texas to Abilene in 1950 where they continued to live until Virgils death and her having to move to Lubbock to be near family in 2003. In the early years of their living in Abilene, Gladys ironed for the public spending great amounts of time standing at the ironing board. She was an accomplished cook and loved to entertain doing so with much grace and dignity. Her sense of humor helped keep the family laughing until the very end of her life.

Gladys was a member of the Southwest Park Baptist Church in Abilene. She was also an avid bowler having participated in numerous leagues for over forty years. She continued to bowl until she was 87 and had to move to Lubbock to be near her family. In fact, the day of the move was her last day to bowl with her team.

Those who survive are two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Edith Cotton and Bruce and Linda Cotton all of Lubbock. There are seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Betty Jones of Paris, Texas, and numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers are to be five grandsons and one great grandson.
