Gladys Maxine Martin, 87, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 in Brownwood. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 18th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Gladys was born on September 20, 1923 in Bell County, Texas the daughter of Ace Gill and Verne Wisemen Gill. She married Elbert Harold Martin on September 21, 1940 and they came to Abilene in 1952 where Gladys worked in the Classified Advertising department at the Abilene Reporter News for 30 years. She was a member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. In the early 1990s, Harold and Gladys moved to Aransas Pass to enjoy retirement where they lived until Harold passed away in 2002. Gladys has lived in Brownwood since that time.

Survivors include her sister, Jimmy Tate two daughters, Anita Payne and Gladys Thomas Grandchildren, John Neill, Juanell Castleberry, Lesley Hickox, Steve Thomas, Terry Payne and Lynn Payne 17 greatgrandchildren and 4 greatgreat grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband of 63 years, two sisters, Muriel Edwards and Margaret Bennett, one brother, John Gill and one grandson, Robby Thomas preceded her in death.

Pallbearers for the service will be Great grandsons, Stephen Thomas Jr., Zachary Thomas, Robert Thomas IV, Nathan Neill, Steve Freeman, and Josh Hickox honorary pallbearers are grandsons, John Neill and Steve Thomas.
