Gloria Ortiz passed into the gates of heaven on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 6:20 pm. She is now reunited with her husband for all eternity.
Gloria was born on July 19, 1941 in Eastland, Texas to Cresencio and Benita Sigala. She moved to Abilene at an early age. She married Moises Ortiz in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Abilene on August 13, 1960. They lived in Abilene all of their married life. She was a homemaker.
Gloria was the best mom and grandma anyone could ask for. She loved her kids and enjoyed spoiling her grandkids. Gloria enjoyed cooking and could make some very delicious meals! It was always special to go eat at "Momo's house". We will definitely miss the wonderful meals she would make for us. Gloria took great care of her family and always made sure she was there for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their school assemblies, sporting events and church programs. She was always very proud of their accomplishments.
Gloria was an avid fan of the Texas Ranger Baseball team. She would stay up to watch their games into the late hours and was always sad when their season was over.
Gloria and Moises enjoyed traveling and were able to do a lot of traveling all over the world in their later years. Gloria and Moises were married for over 56 years. They went everywhere together. It seems only fitting that they would leave this world so close together. Although we are saddened by the loss of our Mother, we know in our hearts that our parents are together again.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, from 5:30 - 7:30 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A Memorial Service will be on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10:30 am at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer, with Jeff Reid and Stan Allcorn officiating. Burial will follow at the Texas Veteran's Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road. All in Abilene.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Janell Pena and husband, Jaime; her son, Robert Ortiz and wife, Melissa; her four grandchildren, Alexandria Ortiz and Anthony Ortiz of Fort Worth and Sarah Pena and Nicolas Pena of Abilene. She is also survived by a sister, Esperanza Martinez of Visalia, CA and a brother, Manuel Sigala of Irving, TX. Also, surviving Gloria are her sisters-in-law and her brothers-in-law from the Ortiz family. They were all very dear to her. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Those that preceded her in death are her parents; three sisters, three brothers and her husband, Moises Ortiz, who passed away thirty seven days before her.
We would like to thank the Hendrick Hospice nurses for taking such wonderful care of our mother.
We would also like to thank the Ortiz Family for their love and support. We could not have made it through without you all walking this journey with us. We are forever grateful.
Gloria will live in our hearts forever. There will not be a day that we won't think of her. She was the best, and we could not have been more proud to call her our Mom.
Heaven has become a sweeter place, and we look forward to the day when we see our Mom and Dad again. We love you both so much!
