Gomecindo Soto

Gomecindo "Chindo" Soto, 72, died Thursday, July 28th. Rosary service will be 6:30 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7 PM on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Dr.
Chindo was born August 13, 1943 to parents, Miguel and Maria Gomez Soto. He grew up in Camp Springs, TX and graduated from high school in Hobbs, TX. He met the love of his life, Irene Hernandez and they were married in 1969. Together they have made many wonderful memories throughout their 46 years of marriage. Chindo worked for Paymaster Feeds in Abilene for 17 years before beginning his career with the State of Texas. He retired from the TDCJ as a correctional officer after many years of service.
He was a member of St. Vincent Palotti Catholic Church and a very proud and involved member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Bert Kogel Council #2163 and the Father Knufer Assembly. Throughout the years he served the Knights of Columbus in a variety of ways; as District Deputy, Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, and State Committee Member.
Chindo was a loving husband, father, and friend. He loved spending time with his family and his two companions, Tigger and Oso.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Irene Soto; one daughter, Maria Soto and husband Jerry F Mendez II; two sisters, Stella Nieto and husband Jack, and Becky Mendoza; three brothers, Mike Soto, Richard Soto, and Raymond Soto; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Soto; brother, John Soto; and his parents.
Pallbearers for the service will be his nephews, Michael Hernandez, Steven Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez, Michael Soto, Michael Soto Jr., and Alez Mendoza Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus District 39
