Grace Powell

Grace Powell, 93, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was called to be with her Lord on October 11, 2015.

Grace was born on August 25, 1922 in Spur, TX to the late Nine Dodson and Eula Pauline Morgan Dodson. She married in Abilene to Charles Powell Jr. and blessed with 50 years of marriage until his passing in 1991. Some of Grace's greatest joys included books, her grandchildren and teaching the Bible. She served others through decades of teaching Sunday school and leading a chapter of the Baptist Women's Missionary Union at the First Baptist Church in Abilene. She had a stunning career in executive support positions for lawyers, pastors, an academic dean and university presidents.

Grace is survived by twin daughters, Paula Sellmyer of Austin, Texas, and Charlotte Nelson of Dallas; two grandchildren, Jon-Charles Sellmyer of Austin and Charlotte Sellmyer of Washington, D.C.; two sons-in-law, John Sellmyer, Jr., and Jim Nelson; and ten nieces and nephews; friends all over Texas and across the country whose lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on October 16, 2015, at Elmwood Funeral Home, Abilene, Texas, preceded by a viewing at 10:30 am. Following the service, Grace will be interred next to her husband at Elmwood Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to Buckner International, www.buckner.org.
