Guadalupe "Lou" Alcala of Abilene Tx was born in San Antonio Tx on July 18th, 1945 to Raul and Maria Campos Gonzales; their first daughter of six children. She met and married the love of her life, Joe Alcala, and together they traveled the world during his long US Air Force career.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, 6:00PM - 8:00PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Rosary will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, 7:00PM - 8:00PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be lead by Rev. Albert Ezeanya and attended by Father Bhaskar on Thursday, December 19, 2024, 2:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
In addition to being a beloved wife and loving mother, Lou had several careers throughout her life. She spent time with many different employers: truck driver/tank washer for the US Army, Weight Watchers, Mbank/BankOne, State of Texas Health & Human Services and Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Lou was a loving friend to all and a life long devout Catholic. She was a Eucharist Minister for many years and attended services at Sacred Heart, Holy Family and the Base Chapel.
Anyone who knew Lou, knew she was going to give them a hug and prayer after meeting and speaking with them. She knew no strangers. She had a loving heart and a giving spirit. She was a great listener and you felt that she really cared about you, which she did. She undervalued her importance as the excellent wife, mother, and grandmother she truly was. Even though she was ill, she felt like she was a burden to other people who took care of her, nothing could have been further from the truth. It was an honor and privilege knowing, loving and caring for her due to the special human being she was. She will be greatly missed.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents and brother Peter Gonzales. She is survived by her husband Joe, sisters Margie Mason & Michelle Lara, brothers Louie Gonzales & Roy Gonzales, children Barbara Busbee & David Alcala, grandsons Robert Busbee, Reese Busbee and DJ Alcala as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Lou asked for donations to her favorite charity:
