Gus Templin Jr.

Gus Templin Jr., died Wednesday, January 20, 2010. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 23, 2010, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with Dr. Phil Christopher, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January22, 2010 at the funeral home.

Gus was born January 5, 1932 in Cameron, Texas the son of Gus Templin Sr. and Lela Templin. Gus Sr. moved from Germany to make their home in the United States.
As a young man, Gus joined the Army National Guard and served from 19511955 before enlisting in the regular Army and serving from, 19551957. Following his active duty service, he served another year in the Reserves. He held the ranks of Staff Sergeant, E5 and Specialist Second Class.

Gus spent 44 years working for various oil drilling companies as rig manager. The last 17 years of his career were with Burger Drilling Company from which he retired in 1994.
Gus married Imogene York on January 19, 1954. She, as well as his parents and one grandson preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Jerry Templin and wife Bonnell daughters, Vonda Thetford and husband Travis, Debra Rister and husband Brad 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren sisters, Martha Phillips and Betty Crump, and his beloved companion and best friend, Cecelia Williamson.
