Guy Saunders

Guy E. Saunders, 93, passed away March 24, 2025. A graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 6801 E, I-20BL Odessa, Texas.

Guy was born April 22, 1931, to Albert and Florence Saunders in Tom Green Co, San Angelo, TX. Family of 10 Children: Lois, Wanda, Merle, Albert, A.V., Aubrey, Billy Mac, Donnie, Carl, and Guy.

Guy attended elementary school at Doola, TX and high school at Melvin, TX. He joined the army in 1948, taking his basic training at Ft. Ord, Ca. After basic he went to Korea then to Japan and was there when The Korea War broke out. He was in the Combat Engineers. After the war he returned to the States and in Dec 1953 he married Inez Hammett of Odessa, TX. They had two sons: Ted Saunders and Micah Saunders; a niece, Gail and nephew, Bobby Phillips.

Guy worked in the oil fields for 4 years after which he went to work driving for Merchant Fast Motor Lines for 37 years and retiring in 1993. He and Inez were married for 48 years when she passed away in 2001. They lived in Abilene, Clyde and Odessa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez; a son, Ted Saunders; a niece, Gail Bailey; and a granddaughter, Kristi Saunders of Godley, Texas.

In 2002 he married Norma Smith of Hawley, TX. He was a member of the Hawley Church of Christ and a Deacon where he was over the food pantry for 6 years. He was a member of the Abilene area square dance and member of Key City Club.

He was the first to deliver Abilene Meals on Wheels to Hawley for 11years. He had a love of playing music and singing. Special friends included Teri and Bobby Wilson, Laurie Smith, Mike and Mona Smith, Allen and Betty Smith and families.

Guy had 2 grandsons: David Saunders, and Clint Saunders; and four great grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler, Kalyn, and Cheyenne; and many nieces, nephews, and extended friends.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Meals on Wheels or Hendrick Hospice.
