Gwendolyn Minor Gentry, 86, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in Abilene. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 13 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Gwendolyn was born on April 30, 1924 in Macon, Georgia where she grew up and later met Raymond Gentry, an Airman stationed in her hometown during WWII, they fell in love and were married on July 11, 1943. She came to Abilene in 1955 when Raymond received orders to report to Dyess Air Force Base prior to its initial opening. Gwendolyn worked in Civil Service for 35 years and at the time of her retirement was the head of Finance and Accounting at Dyess AFB. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Gwendolyn was a caring and giving person, she was proud to have been instrumental in the organization of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation in Mississippi and every year enjoyed adopting a family in need of a little extra help at Christmas.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald Gentry and wife Peggy of Austin and Tom Gentry and wife Mary of Graham two sisters, Henrietta Click of Gulf Port, Mississippi and Juanita Brooks and husband Truman of Hawley 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
