Harvey Johnson, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 8, 2022, in Abilene, Texas. Harvey Conrad Johnson was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on July 11, 1925, the son of Robert Franklin and Rosie Albright Johnson. Harvey married Mary Katherine Yeakley on April 30, 1960.

Harvey was a proud veteran of World War II. In his last years of high school, Harvey made the decision to serve his country by joining the Navy after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. He trained in San Diego, California, and then served at the following stations and on the following vessels: USS UMS-283, the USS Sheridan, SLCU-24, USN Shore FAC, USS Henry T. Allen, LST Group 70 Staff Flot. 24; and the USS Mindoro. He was proud to serve his country, but did not talk about it much. Over the years, his children learned about some of his military service. He took part in "leapfrogging," also known as the "island-hopping campaign," to position the Allies for the defeat of Japan. He also was present during the famous return of General MacArthur to the Philippines and the infamous Battle of Iwo Jima. Later in life, Harvey would serve his nation as a member of the US Draft Board.

After his military service, Harvey went to work for the United States Post Office starting out as a clerk, then working in various other positions, and eventually becoming a postmaster in numerous Texas towns. He retired after 25 years. He enjoyed being around people so much that after retirement, he went to work as a Walmart door greeter.

He and his wife raised three boys together. He was a great dad who loved spending time with his wife and children. He helped coach his boys' baseball teams and watch their games in tennis and football. The family enjoyed camping trips, visiting every State Park in Texas. He and his wife enjoyed going to see their grown children and grandchildren over the years. Harvey loved keeping up with his family so much that at the age of 80 he learned to work a computer so that he could see pictures, watch videos, and keep in contact with them. He was so good at it that he even had a Facebook page.

Harvey grew stronger and stronger in his faith in Christ as the years went by. He and his wife were members of Broadview Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed being a part of their Sunday School class. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by so many.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rosie Johnson; one sister, Katherine (Sis) Biter; and one brother, George Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Johnson; his three sons, Frank Johnson (Jackie), Gary Johnson (Angela), and Ray Johnson (Lauri); grandchildren, Colt (Katy), Tiffani (Charles), Matthew, Daniel, Ricky (Emily), Michael (Rachel), Cassi (Shane), Grace (Tyler), and Sean; Great-Grandchildren, Kennedy, Landry, Jackson, Shane, Liam, Noelle, Sage, and Baby C.
