Hattie Baldwin

December 6, 1927 — April 30, 2017

Hattie Mae Baldwin went home to be with the Lord April 30, 2017. Hattie was the blessing to the union of Ezell and Rosie Stowers Mathis in Grimes County, Anderson Texas on December 6, 1927. A visitation will be 5:30 - 7:30 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the Elmwood Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 S. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Mount Zion First Baptist Church, 520 Stafford St, Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow in the Abilene City Cemetery.

Ms. Baldwin is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Baldwin.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary McGee Roy; her son, Bobby W McGee (Lucille); also the children of the late William Baldwin. Ms. Hattie leaves a host of grandchildren, great grands and great great grandchildren to cherish her memories here on this earth.

Ms. Hattie as she is known by worked for Abilene Linen Supply for many years. She would state, "Back then you didn't have to fill out no paper, you talked to the people and got the job." Ms. Hattie was the 1st black waitress in Abilene in the 1960's. She loved serving people; whether with food, ironing, a good meal or just a cake. This was her passion and calling.
